Low Sodium Homemade Salsa

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup fresh cilantro
  • 4 large cloves of garlic
  • 5 medium tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1-2 jalapeno peppers (depending on size and heat)..can also use chipolte peppers
  • 1 can (10-14 oz) no salt added tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Directions

1. Mince the garlic, jalapeno and cilantro finely.

2. Chop onions and tomatoes to desired size.

3. Add all ingredients in a large bowl, then mix in the tomato sauce and lemon juice.

4. Taste the finished product to determine if you have enough jalapeno for your desired heat level. Remember you can always add more but you can’t take it out once you have added it.

*Caution: Be careful when cutting the jalapeno peppers. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth until you have thoroughly washed your hands.

  1. I am very grateful to skip the salt recipes, it makes my day so much easier to deal with than trying to figure out what not to eat with salt in it. It is so helpful. The recipes are tasteful and I don’t even miss the salt.
