Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup red table wine
- 4 cups no salt added beef broth
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a large saucepan or stockpot. Stir in sugar.
2. Add onions to the pot and cook onions over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
3. Stir in flour until well blended with the onions and pan juices.
4. Add water, wine, and beef broth; heat to boiling.
5. Reduce heat to low. Cover soup, and simmer for 10 minutes.
6. May be served with bread and melted cheese on top. (optional)
