Ingredients:

  • 16 oz lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup homemade, no sodium bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Mrs. Dash Steak spice
  • 1 tsp Mrs. Dash Herb & Garlic spice
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan/Asiago cheese
  • 4 thickly sliced slices tomato
  • 4 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 4 tbsp homemade basil pesto sauce (recipe on website)
  • 4 homemade, low sodium burger buns, cut in half
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional garnish)

Directions:

1. Heat grill if cooking immediately.

2. In a large bowl place all the ingredients to make the burgers – ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, spices and grated cheese. Mix well and form into 4 balls. Flatten each ball into a round burger patty. If not grilling right away, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to grill.

3. Lightly butter each bun and place them face down to toast on the grill, move to upper grill to keep warm once they are toasted.

4. Cook patties on a hot grill. Once flipped and almost cooked, top each patty with the mozzarella and close lid to let cheese melt.

5. Place a cooked patty on a bun bottom, top a tomato slice and fresh basil, if desired. Place a tbsp of pesto on the top bun and place it on the burger, serve immediately.

Makes 4 burgers, each burger has 623 calories, 148mg sodium, 37.5g carbohydrates with the ingredients used.
