Low Sodium Chili

Ingredients

  • 12 oz extra lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion (204g) diced 4
  • stalks celery (460g) diced
  • 1 large green pepper (236g) diced
  • 19 fl oz canned Dark Kidney Beans, no added salt
  • 19 fl oz canned Black Beans, no added salt
  • 28 fl oz canned diced tomatoes with Italian seasoning, no added salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-2 tbsp no salt chili powder

Directions

1. Brown ground beef, add in the onion, celery and green pepper and cook for about 20 minutes on low heat.

2. Add kidney beans, black beans and tomatoes to the mixture and turn up heat to medium low. Use 1 cup of water to rinse out the cans and add it to the pot.

3. Cook for about 30 minutes, stirring the mix every so often…if needed, add a bit more water.

4. Add in the chili powder and stir well-add 1 tbsp first and then add more if needed. You can always add more but you can’t take it out once added!

Makes 6-8 portions 6 portions=114 mg sodium 8 portions=85.4mg sodium
